What is the purpose of Training?

From a technical standpoint, physical training is a way to condition your heart, skeletal muscle, bones, and nervous system to be prepared for future physical tasks and to respond to stressful or life-threatening situations. As strongman Earle Liederman wrote in 1926:

“Every man should be able to save his own life, to swim far enough, run fast and long enough to save his life in case of emergency. He also should be able to pull himself up a reasonable number of times, and should be able to jump a reasonable height and distance”

Being physically fit used to be an essential requirement for survival. While it is no longer required, it is always best to be prepared for any situation.

But lets get back to the main point of my post. Aside from ensuring your survival, Physical Training, in the context of modern life, is a tool that allows you to get the most out of your life.

Training is a tool that prepares you to do more, be more productive, and be more fulfilled.

It makes everything you do easier and more enjoyable. Activities that used to feel strenuous will be completed with ease. You are prepared for whatever life throws at you.

Training is an activity…making smart choices is a lifestyle.

“Getting in shape” isn’t about vanity. It is about so much more than that. It is about the person you become when you have the energy to help others, to encourage others, and to change the course of your life and the lives of those around you. When you realize how much control you have over the way you look and the way you feel, it will empower you to do great things.

Let’s face it…if you are often tired, sick, or in a bad mood, you are probably not going to be that productive…let alone change the world in some meaningful way.

There is a lot in life that we do not have control over, but we do have some control over our own health.

You can change your life by changing your body.
